Keepsake Denim Flowers

memory denim flowers bouquet

Keepsake denim flowers from old jeans? Is this even possible?

Denim flowers become more and more popular for different reasons. Some just love this universally known blue material. Some others look to upcycle some old garments and change them into exciting things. However there are people who go deeper with this idea and turn old clothing into memory or keepsake denim flowers for sentimental reasons.

Remember loved ones with a stunning keepsake flower corsage (or a whole bouquet) made from denim clothes of someone dear now gone. With so many denim floral designs to choose from, I can create a memory flower that you will enjoy wearing for years to come 💙

Put those old garments to good use. You can browse my denim flower designs here

You might wish to learn how to make denim flowers yourself either from new or uncycled denim fabric. Inf that’s the case, I have got some good news for you as I have tried and tested more denim flowers than I care to remember. FABRIC HYDRANGEA TUTORIAL

I wonder if there is ever going to be a moment when I say to myself: I have tried and made all the flowers imaginable. For some reason I do not think this is going to happen and you know very well why: there are sooooooooo many flowers out there that it is virtually impossible to make them all. Every time I come across a flower picture in a book or online or I see a plant in somebody’s garden or at a garden centre, I make a mental note “I should try to create this one soon!”. One of such flowers, hydrangea has been on “to do” list for a while. Last summer I was admiring its faded pink blooms in my own garden, the colour I would like to call “antique pink”. Here is the photo of it:

Hydrangea from my garden

So last week I finally sat down and created my own version of hydrangea blooms using silk and … denim! Yes, good old cotton denim worked out perfectly for this hydrangea and a rose bud buttonhole. Such buttonhole is ideal to be pinned onto a groom’s lapel at a denim-themed wedding.

The other hydrangea is more like a natural one. Made of specialised Japanese fabric with a soft shine it resembles the one I enjoyed looking at last year in my garden.

Hydrangea corsage

Hydrangea corsage is unusual and fun to wear. It makes a perfect gift for someone who loves this humble garden flower.

Now that I have done the wearable pieces with hydrangea, the next attempt will be to make tall stems for a vase arrangement 🙂 Fabric hydrangea experiments continue…

Denim themed weddings

denim wedding accessories
Themed weddings are becoming more and more popular every year as couples do their best to create a special and unique day, memorable for themselves, their families and friends.
A denim themed wedding creates a relaxed atmosphere as the guests are expected to wear either denim skirts or jeans for the celebration. With the bride and groom wearing traditional outfits makes them stand out but at the same time calls for the appropriate  denim accessories to complete the theme.
One can be very original and inventive when it comes to denim accessories. Thanks to its nature, denim fabric can be used for making flowers employing the same techniques as those used for the silk ones. The denim fabric is denser than silk but once treated it holds the shape well. I find it ideal for simple flowers with clean lines like these camellias of geometric dahlias

Thinner, lighter denim fabrics can be used for flowers with a lot of petals like roses

Brooches and pins can be used to decorate a groom’s lapel or a bridal dress. For the hairdo floral hair clips and pieces can be created using denim. And with a little bit of effort and lots of imagination some stunning denim fascinators can be crafted for the bridal party ☺

Have you tried making flowers with denim? If not, give it a go and you’ll be pleased how great they look. Wear one and get all the compliments!

Little princess’ teasure box

As well as their Mummies little girls love to get dressed in new pretty outfits for special occasions. And what can be the best compliment to that outfit if not a cute designer custom-made hair accessory
I have made floral accessories in silk and other fabrics as well as fascinators in sinamay for young ladies.
One of my long-standing favourites is this original silk and lace butterfly headband in sugar pink. I painted all the fabrics by hand  using colours for silk. This allows me to create the accessory in an array of colours to perfectly match a little girl’s dress. The butterfly is decorated with ostrich feathers and Japanese seed beads.

This is an example of a delicate floral headpiece accented with pearl beads in a matching colour. I used pure silk fabrics of several types and painted them by hand. A headdress like this one is ideal for little bridesmaids at weddings.  Other colours are available to order.

This alice headband decorated with a distressed denim camellia flower is a versatile hair accessory for the coming summer. Not only will it complete little princess’ denim outfits, but it will also complement her light romantic dresses and skirts with floral prints. I would recommend it for everyday wear. To get  your own complete set of denim accessories you can order a brooch and hair clips made with the same fabric.

My latest creation for young ladies is this elegant triple bow of sinamay and birdcage veil on a headband. I embroidered the centre of the bow with Japanese seed beads and covered the headband in Indian dupioni sik in a matching colour.

This fascinator is perfect for special occasions and can be made to order in other colours to complement an chosen outfit and to complete the look.

I have more ideas to add to the collection of little princess’ accessories so keep your eyes peeled for them :-)))
