Handmade flowers have a multitude of applications. Some of them are more obvious, others not as such with new ones being discovered all the time.
Recently I have had a very unusual request for an … extinct flower that is featured in one of the still life paintings by Jan Davidsz de Heem, a Dutch baroque artist. The flower is a type of anemone, but nothing like we see today. As the flower is rare and extinct I could not find a template anywhere, so had to use my imagination and judgment to develop my own that will be close to the actual thing.
Below you will see the photos of my finished extinct anemone in fabric as well as a cope of the original painting it appears.
What unusual applications for your handmade flowers you have discovered? Please share in the comments 🙂

Dear Svetlana,
I found your page while searching for an artificial Papaver (poppy) somniferum – which I am trying to find for three years now. Yes, the one in the Dutch painting you refer to. I am copying this same painting in silk flowers and my vase is over 1 meter tall at this moment. I also added insects and butterflies. Each time I believe to have finished, I discover a new flower, but it often is very hard to determine the name and if I succeeded, it sometimes is not available in artificial form. So it is a never ending very pleasant project! My question to you is: could you refer me to somebody who could make me this flower, complete with the gigantic leaves?
Looking forward to hearing from you and with flowerly greetings, Linda
p.s. as a matter of fact even more beautiful and interesting are the flower still lives of Rachel Ruijsch, a female Dutch painter. Have a look if you are interested…

Dear Linda,
Thank you very much for your message. I agree, these Dutch and Flemish still lives are just amazing, so much detail in every painting!
The pictures of the silk papaver somniferum you can see on my website are of the poppy I have previously made myself. If you wish, you can request one from me to be made to order for your project. To get in touch please use the following email address enquiries@presentperfectcreations.com
Kind Regards,
Svetlana
