Description
This tutorial is useful for artists with previous experience in flower making who would like to improve their skills dyeing and shaping velvet type fabrics to create sweet pansies with a vintage flair.
To help you choose a fabric for your velvet pansies check out this additional velvet fabric overview video:
Modest yet sweet pansies have been around for centuries. Their velvety petals in a variety of colours and colour combinations make them a perfect lapel or hat trim. The right choice of fabric adds a vintage flair to this well known and still so popular flower. With the help of this detailed step by step tutorial we are going to give this familiar classic a new lease of life and turn them into an attractively shaped, versatile flower suitable for many occasions.
Velvet Pansies with their five sculptured petals are a stunning and indeed sweet floral arrangement. However do not be misled by the fact that the pansy has only got 5 petals. With so few petals, there is nowhere to hide imperfections. You will learn to dye them and shape them using more advanced techniques for a truly beautiful result.
The techniques described in the tutorial will allow you to create pansies using heavy fabrics like velvet, denim, metallics etc. Feel free to use your imagination and create a wide range of other accessories with these flowers.
The tutorial is aimed at intermediate flower makers with a set of millinery tools (can be ordered here).
With more than 160 pictures explaining in detail the whole process of creating your own velvet pansy corsage, the 94 page pdf tutorial (no hard copy is available) will unlock the mystery behind the attractive sculpted fabric petals of our well known pansy flower. You will be able to create a wearable velvet pansy corsage as well as (hopefully) many more wonderful pieces with this all time favourite flower.
I have included TWO PATTERNS for you to choose from which you can enlarge or reduce in size depending on your project. The photo tutorial comes with several additional videos that demonstrate most tricky points for you. Look for a separate video devoted to the process of dyeing the petals which you will find very useful.
To create the velvet pansies you will require some millinery tools. Please refer to the photo which shows which tools (or similar) you will need for this tutorial.
